I have been teaching for over 16 years and still think it is the best job in the world. I make my classes fun, creative, and communicative, no matter how old the student. The best way to learn is to enjoy it! As a practitioner of post-method pedagogy, I adapt my teaching practice to the needs of the learners, keeping them engaged and helping them achieve their best. I started as a teacher of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) to adults in the UK for 7 years before coming to Hong Kong, where I have taught in the local school system as a NET as well as in tutorial centers. I have a proven track record in teaching ESOL, English (as a first language), and History, providing in-person and online training and encouragement to improve student self-confidence, study habits, and time management. I have helped students achieve greater academic success and independent learning among students through effective learning techniques, which led to 100% of students scoring either grade 9 or 8 at GCSE, an A at A Level, and 90% of students offered a place at the school of their choice. Hello! I'm Angelina and I'm 18 years old. I'm open to teaching children English as well as IGCSE and IB students. The IGCSE subjects I teach include Mathematics, Business Studies, English (coursework), History, and Drama (written exam skills), Biology, and Chemistry. For my undergraduate degree, I did a double major in History and French, and received a first class honours for my academic achievements. I was also featured on the Dean's list for 3 years, and was invited to join the HKU Undergraduate Fellowship Research Programme. I have previously taught young children English, Mandarin, and French. Hi there! I'm Anjali, a recent graduate of Cambridge University. I teach Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Geography, and English at various levels (A Level, IB, GCSE, IGCSE). Do you need someone to ignite your child's interest in learning? I taught European History at the university level as well as in high school so I understand what it takes to make the transition from one to the other. My method of tutoring focuses on analyzing texts as opposed to the brute memorization of facts. Because I have a background in a lot of different topics, I tend to allow lessons to move over a wide range of fields, depending on what interests the student. This serves to engage a variety of students on their terms. In a sense, what I offer is a theatrical performance in which I open up my inner thinking process about a given topic and, in turn, invite students to join in this performance. I have in the past conducted my classes as book clubs in which students voted for books to read and I worked my lessons around these books. I believe that this method can be particularly valuable for the smaller more intimate setting of tutoring. Students on the autism spectrum, in particular, have benefited, as it allows their particular set of interests to set the agenda. Ultimately, I like to see myself as a living resource that students can use to help them connect to the world of books and of private reading where the true process of education lies. My favorite clients are members of a large family, ranging in age from toddler to teen. I come in for several hours a week to help with whatever is needed. That usually means starting the evening reading to the younger kids. I have a child on each knee while I use one hand to hold a book and my second hand to balance a third kid on top of my head. By the end of the evening, I am talking history and politics with the older kids. In either role, I serve as a reading facilitator, encouraging people to push themselves to read more, read widely and read things that will challenge them intellectually and emotionally.
