Cognitive Neuroscience & Psychology Tutor in Polokwane – Engaging, Precise, and Creative Teaching
My name is Mosa Mafalo, and I am based in Polokwane. I hold a Master’s degree in Psychology with a focus on Cognitive Neuroscience and Consciousness Studies from the University of the Witwatersrand. My academic journey has given me the opportunity to present seminars at both honours and master’s level, covering subjects such as Cognitive Neuroscience, Language and Thought, and Advanced Research Methods. These experiences have shaped my ability to explain complex ideas in ways that are clear, engaging, and memorable, and they continue to inspire my passion for teaching.
I specialize in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience, but my interests and skills extend into mathematics, data science, and coding. This combination allows me to support learners not only in understanding psychological concepts but also in developing analytical and problem‑solving skills that are valuable across disciplines. My tutoring style is conversational and patient, built around dialogue, analogies, and metaphors that make difficult concepts easier to grasp. I believe learning should feel approachable and even enjoyable, and I aim to create that experience for every student I work with.
Teaching has always been central to how I learn and grow. From peer‑to‑peer tutoring in matric to leading seminars at university, I have consistently used teaching as a way to sharpen my own understanding while helping others succeed. Tutoring is also part of my aspiration to become a lecturer, so every session is not only about guiding students but also about refining myself as an educator.
Over the past two years, I have achieved milestones that reflect both academic growth and personal development. I completed my Master’s degree in Psychology with a focus on Cognitive Neuroscience and Consciousness Studies, was selected to attend the Simmons Computational Cognitive Neuroscience Summer School in 2025 where I engaged with cutting‑edge research on deep machine learning in consciousness studies, and earned a Data Science certificate that strengthened my skills in coding, analysis, and computational problem‑solving. These achievements highlight my commitment to continuous learning and to building the skills that make me a stronger tutor and future lecturer.
Beyond academics, I am deeply engaged in self‑learning. I am working toward building a “second brain” through cognitive neuroscience, while also teaching myself classical and quantum physics. In mathematics, I am currently focused on probability theory and linear algebra, with plans to move into limits and first‑order calculus. I am learning Python for machine learning to sharpen my problem‑solving skills, and I enjoy running self‑experimentation habits, exercises, and testing new ideas. I read novels to expand imagination, and I study history and philosophy to deepen perspective. Every day, I also make time for anime, especially One Piece, which has been a long‑term passion and a daily source of curiosity, persistence, and inspiration.
Tutoring allows me to bring together my academic expertise, my creative teaching style, and my genuine passion for learning. I don’t just teach; I help students discover how to think critically, solve problems, and enjoy the process of learning. Whether you are preparing for exams, tackling difficult concepts, or simply curious about psychology and neuroscience, I can guide you with patience, clarity, and enthusiasm.
