Questions for You

Q: What teaching methods do you use to help students learn Math concepts and solve problems?

I use a variety of methods including pnemonics, songs, diagrams and related words. I do not teach by rote learning, but more by problem solving and shared thought processes.

Q: Do you have experience with online teaching platforms or virtual tutoring, and what is your preferred method of communication with students?

I do have experience using online platorms for teaching. My preferred methods of communication are primarily email, then WhatsApp.

Q: What Math topics or concepts are you particularly skilled in teaching, and how do you keep up to date with changes in the curriculum?

I have a passion for algebra and number work, but also shape and geometry. Statistics is the branch of maths I am least passionate about, but I can teach all elements. As a current GCSE maths examiner I have to stay up to date with the curriculum and current thinking.

Q: How do you communicate with parents about their child's progress and any challenges they may be facing in learning Math?

I will usually use email but I am also quite happy to do face to face feedback when needed.

Q: Do you provide any additional resources or materials to supplement your lessons, such as practice exercises or online tutorials?

Definitely. You can't expect to improve your maths just by doing an hour of tutoring a week. Maths takes practice.......practice not just until you get it right, but until you can't get it wrong! I always give homework to be completed before the nexr session and will often give links to online videos and tutorials to help "refresh" when needed. I am always on the look out for fun apps and sites that help with maths understanding too.

Q: What is your approach to homework assignments, and how do you ensure students understand the concepts covered in class?

As above, lots of practice that is tailored to the individual learner. When I mark the homework this gives instant feedback on understanding. I will usually spend the first few minutes checking understanding at the start of each session before we proceed. All of this depends on each learner as no 2 people are the same.

Q: What steps do you take to ensure that your teaching approach is compatible with the student's learning style?

Being n experienced teacher means you always have to adapt your style and way of teaching depending on who you are working with. Some learners prefer lots of questions of a similar type, others prefer more investigative, hands on approaches.

Q: Do you have experience working with students with learning disabilities or special needs, and how do you adapt your teaching methods to accommodate their needs?

I have worked with many learners with special needs and adapt accordingly. These include autistic, deaf, EAL, dyslexia....and many others. My experience as a teaching assistant as well as a teacher is invaluable for adapting to every type of learner.
