Questions for You

Q: What age range of students do you usually work with?

University Students (Pre-undergraduates to Postgraduate)

Q: How do you approach lesson planning and preparation?

I will tailor my teaching to reflect the learning needs of the students by focusing on the study materials of the students and where necessary, I can suggest some popular and relevant study material in the field of law.

Q: How do you measure progress and assess learning outcomes for your students?

Measuring progress in legal writing involves setting clear objectives from the start, such as mastering IRAC structure or improving citation accuracy. You can track growth through iterative feedback on drafts, noting how students refine arguments, tighten analysis, and correct errors across revisions. Rubrics help standardize evaluations, breaking down performance into specific skills like legal reasoning, clarity, and technical precision. Short quizzes or exercises assess foundational knowledge, while longer assignments—memos, briefs, or client letters—showcase a student’s ability to synthesize law and facts. Comparing early and later work highlights tangible improvement, like stronger issue-spotting or cleaner formatting. Peer reviews encourage critical thinking, as students learn to critique and defend writing choices. Self-assessment is also valuable; ask students to reflect on their weaknesses and revisions. Surveys or quick check-ins gauge confidence levels over time. For practical application, simulate real-world tasks, such as drafting a motion under deadline pressure. Technology aids tracking, from grammar tools catching recurring errors to plagiarism checkers ensuring proper sourcing. Finally, qualitative feedback matters—discuss progress in one-on-one sessions to uncover deeper gaps in understanding. The goal is a balance of measurable skill growth (fewer errors, faster research) and nuanced development (sharper analysis, persuasive tone). Adjust your approach based on individual needs, ensuring progress aligns with real legal writing demands.

Q: Do you provide regular homework and assignments, and how do you review and provide feedback on student work?

Yes, where necessary!

Q: What technology or resources do you use to enhance your lessons, particularly for online sessions?

I am familiar with advancements in the use of technology in education. I have consistently sought to innovate and improve my teaching methods at CityU. I have integrated technology into my tutorials, utilizing online resources and interactive platforms to supplement traditional teaching methods during COVID-19. This has not only made learning more accessible and engaging for students but has also allowed me to cater to different learning styles and needs. I increased student participation and improved overall academic outcomes by creating a more interactive and student-centred learning environment.

Q: Do you provide any additional support outside of scheduled lesson times, such as answering questions via email or phone?

Yes

Q: Do you have any specific strategies for motivating students who may be struggling or disengaged with the subject material?

I will ensure that I understand their primary needs by moving at their pace and trying to simplify the concepts using local instances or examples the students are familiar with. That way, the students will be able to overcome fear and embrace the understanding of the concepts with ease. More so, I will engage the students to be active and make sure that my teaching is interactive to enable and encourage the students to be active thereby making them confident in learning such perceived difficult legal concepts through my simplified approach and guidance. My commitment to fostering an inclusive and dynamic learning environment is reflected in my teaching philosophy, which emphasizes active learning, critical thinking, and real-world application of legal principles.

Q: Do you have experience working with students with learning differences or special needs?

Yes
