I have been teaching English for the past 6 years in Queenstown. My reputation and achievements precede me. I have assisted students in achieving good grades for matric re-writes, and have also helped university students who struggle with expressing and decoding information in English, with great success. My strength comes from a long-standing interest and study in Literature, which helped me earn my Masters in Applied Communication Management at the University of Fort Hare in Alice, Eastern Cape province of South Africa. Over the years of tutoring English, I have noticed that most of my learners are: 1) afraid of using the language on a daily basis, which is crucial for better understanding and getting used to the language. 2) have the ability to read the language but find it difficult to decode the information communicated. 3) tend to indulge in direct translation, thinking in their native language and directly translating the information into English. 4) struggle with spellings and literature. These observations have led me to develop tactics essential to assist my learners who come from diverse demographics. I begin by creating a friendly environment to break the ice, ensuring that my learners understand that it is not only their success, but mine as well, if by the end of our one-on-one interactions they achieve their intended goals.

Hi there! I'm Danson, an American, Texas born and bred, who's been living, working, and studying in Germany for the past few years. Education-wise, I graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in History (minor in Philosophy) and later received my CELTA while living in Mexico City. Currently, I'm writing my Master's thesis in American Studies at the University of Leipzig. I love to cook - Tex-Mex, American Southern, Mexican, whatever - and run. Lastly, I'm a dedicated writer of historical fiction and poetry inspired by science.

My experience has been that one-to-one personal tuition has a unique value to students because of the ability to resolve the student's personal barriers to learning in a way that lays the foundations for a deep and long-lasting understanding of the subject.

My style is to start with what the students know rather than what they don’t. This base is the first square we fill and gives confidence and security. From there we spread out like a tree to show that knowledge is linked up and we organise new material into distinct groups that are the placed onto the correct branches of the tree. Visually, this pattern builds to reflect and illustrate the concepts covered and hopefully retained by the students. This natural map is available to all students and permits good working between them as any errors can be wiped away by reference to the matrix style tree diagramme. I have been a classroom teacher for over 16 years with children, adolescents and “grown ups” in industry. My classes have passed their exams thanks to my experience, their hard work and desire to succeed. I am still able to follow some former students on Facebook at their choosing.
