An ASEAN Scholar who graduated with a B.Eng in 1997 and M.Eng in 2000 from the Nanyang Technological University of Singapore, Hoe Kit has worked in various roles ranging from system analyst to solution architect in companies such as ExxonMobil, Siemens and Teradata.

Now, semi-retired in Thailand, he returns to doing things he enjoys i.e. learning, teaching and problem-solving. Tutoring maths to his three adopted children, aged 11, 14 and 16, reignited his interest in maths, particularly given the rather poor standard of maths in Thailand. He has uploaded various videos, in Thai, teaching maths and problem-solving using maths to YouTube*. I believe strongly in learning by solving problems and in developing the motivation of students.
Maths problems provide good opportunities for both. However, learners sometimes lack a good understanding of some supporting concept required to solve maths problems and get frustrated.
The approach I like to take is to step back to a simpler problem that the learner *can* solve, teach the supporting concept and then re-tackle the problem.
