My name is Alan. I am a British citizen who was born in Hong Kong, so I am also a Permanent Resident there.

Although I was educated entirely in the UK, I have always been multilingual—I spoke Hakka and Cantonese (Chinese dialects) at home, and learned French, German, and English at school.

These days, I also speak Thai at an intermediate level, as my wife is a Thai diplomat and I am currently based in Bangkok.

If you’d like to learn some Cantonese for fun, I also speak Mandarin Chinese and would be happy to help! Try learning a few phrases, so that next time you’re in Hong Kong, you can order the best food, get the best bargains in the shops, and understand what Hong Kongers are yelling about all the time. اقرأ أقل
