I am an Oxford masters history graduate, specialising in British history, empires and globalisation. My undergraduate dissertation focused on the afterlives of Imperial heroes in former African colonies through a study of their material culture, and was recognised as the highest marked dissertation in its field that year. In 2022 I completed History MSc in Empires, Colonialism and Globalisation at Balliol College, Oxford. I have been tutoring since 2016, primarily in History and English Language & Literature. In 2018 I taught in Nepal, and in 2019 in China, at Harrow School Beijing. From 2019 to 2022 I worked for an agency based in Beijing that specialises in helping students into the top rated schools and universities in the UK and US. Many of my students have achieved places at schools such as Eastbourne College, Wycombe Abbey, and Cheltenham, as well as Russel Group universities. Furthermore, having taught English Language and Literature for the last three years I have a particularly strong knowledge of key exam texts, particularly the Shakespearean plays. I have been tutoring for many years in a variety of countries, with students both struggling with their work, and those seeking to excel even further. Outside of work I enjoy playing tennis, going to the theatre, and cheering on the Welsh rugby team! I currently work for a member of the shadow cabinet in Westminster as a parliamentary researcher.

I am currently studying in a distance education PhD program in the Department of History and Ethnography at the University of Debrecen. I hold a master's degree in Cultural and Visual Anthropology, which comprises extensive geography, history, history of arts, history of cinematography, sociology, and ethnographic studies, among many other subjects. Therefore, I am not only providing the basic knowledge of history, sociology, history of arts, and philosophy required by the curriculum, but I am also presenting a more comprehensive, holistic approach to my students, enabling them to understand the deep and wonderful connections between ecology, geopolitics, economy, political decisions, and arts. My name is Blaise, I am a qualified teacher from South Africa, currently working at a (soon to be) IB accredited International School called “Kunming World Youth Academy”. I received my BA Humanities degree and PGCE qualifications from Stellenbosch University. Although I have loved working in China and my job, as well as the school, I feel the location of the school has been an increasing challenge for me. I am dedicated, hard-working, and eager to learn. I believe that for the teacher; teaching and learning are synonymous. I am continuously looking for new ways to develop my lessons, which I know need to continuously be adapted and changed to cater to the diversity within a class. This is one of the many reasons I resonate with the values and principles promoted by IB, which I why I hope to instil my learners with the eagerness to be: inquirers, knowledgable, caring, balanced, reflective, communicators, principled, and risk-takers.
