I am a British teacher of English language and literature, and I have been working in Hong Kong since 2001. Before that, I taught English in Japan for over 10 years. From 2001 until 2023, I was a senior tutor at AMG Ltd. in Language and Literature for students aged 8-18. At AMG, I taught UKISET, IDAT, ISEB 11+ and 13+, SSAT, (I)GCSE, HKDSE, IB, SAT, NAPLAN, IELTS, LSAT, and many other Australian and Canadian curricula. I successfully prepared students to enter top British private schools, including scholarships for Benenden, Eton, Harrow, Winchester, and Wycombe Abbey, as well as schools and universities in the UK, US, Canada, and Australia. Many of my former students are now successful young professionals in business, law, medicine, and many other fields. In my first lessons, I learn what the student enjoys reading and their level of comprehension so I can supply interesting, relevant lessons in which they will learn more vocabulary and how to analyze a text. I also help students develop their creative writing through structured prompts and clear models. For older students, I focus on essay techniques and literary analysis, including how to analyze language and structure in texts. For those students preparing for IELTS, we cover all areas of the examination by looking at past papers and best practices. I also offer interview practice for Hong Kong international schools and schools in the UK and elsewhere. I have extensive experience in preparing students for online as well as face-to-face interviews; my focus is on building up learners’ self-confidence and interpersonal skills so they can present their best selves to any interviewer. Classes are conducted one-on-one in a comfortable office. There is also a great reception area for students to wait in before class if they need a place to do homework.

Hello, I'm Hannah! I'm a CELTA-qualified EFL teacher from the UK. Since 2016, I have taught over 6,000 hours across many ages, nationalities, and levels, whether building on existing skills, preparing for GCSEs, A-Levels, IELTS, or Cambridge exams—or even if you're learning for the first time. My main subjects are English as a Foreign Language, IELTS, PET, FCE, English Language, and English Literature (at GCSE, A-Level, and degree level). I believe that being a great teacher involves being a committed learner, which is why I am currently studying Dutch and speak Spanish at a B2 level. In addition, I am dedicated to my professional development and began the DELTA qualification (equivalent to a second Master’s degree) in EFL in March 2026. I have worked in international language schools in the UK, and in Romania as a Principal and EFL Teacher. In addition to EFL teaching, I currently oversee an EFL program in Romania remotely, delivering weekly teacher training.

I am a former international school student born in Hong Kong and raised between Hong Kong, Beijing, and New York. After graduating from Columbia University with a degree in Political Science and Economics, I joined the Teach For America program (against the wishes of my parents who had hoped I'd go into finance) and taught a variety of subjects including mathematics, chemistry, and biology. I also ran my school's after-school SAT tutoring program. As an educator, my background is in High School special education and Middle School general education. But where my strength lies is in my ability to help students understand their goals and how best to achieve them.
