My name is Jaydene and I am an English teacher with IELTS certification and Teaching certification for students with special needs I hold a PGD in early childhood education. I worked at a private institution teaching the IGCSE curriculum to learners from years 1 - 10, as well as adult students preparing for IELTS and SAT exams. I worked with a variety of students including special needs, and students of many ages and backgrounds. With my Adult students who are preparing for IELTS or SAT exams or just wanting to learn English as a second language, we go through Modules that are custom designed for each student's needs that will include speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Here is a little background about me... I was born in Hong Kong, but grew up in the UK. I am a registered nurse in Hong Kong and a part-time English tutor in my spare time. I grew up in Surrey, England, from the age of 9 when my parents sent me to boarding school. After graduating from university, I worked at one of the busiest hospitals in London for 3 years. Two years ago, I relocated my life back to Hong Kong and have been teaching people who have the passion to further their English speaking skills. The Hong Kong education system is infamous for gruelling kids to do long hours of written exercise to learn English, but no room to practise speaking and listening skills- which compromise the basis of English communication. I believe the only way to improve English communication skills is through practice and more practice. Very often, students tend to shy away; afraid of making further mistakes. But in my class, I will encourage my students to make mistakes as I believe it is the only way to know one's strengths and areas that need improvement. During my class, students will be taught the basics of English at first; the correct promounciation of vowels, use of grammar and sentence structure of everyday English- these are the components of English fluency. Gradually, moving on to accent removal (in my class British English) to sound more native.
