Over the last 20 years, I have gained significant classroom and management experience at several state, grammar, and independent schools. Although I have been out of the classroom environment recently, I continue to keep up to date with education policy and support students away from the school environment via home tutoring.

I am an experienced teacher with a passion for my subject and a great desire that all pupils across the ability range are inspired by Science. There is no greater job satisfaction for me than when that inspiration leads to students excelling in examinations or pursuing a career in medicine. As Head of Biology at Kingston Grammar School, I managed a team of four experienced teachers, as well as being actively involved in the overall management of the Science department.

I was successful in improving both A-Level and GCSE results year-on-year. I was responsible for coordinating Community Service placements for students in the wider community. I also worked closely with Brunel University with their PGCE program and was part of a team inspected by OFSTED, where I was awarded 'outstanding' in my mentoring work with PGCE students at Kingston Grammar.

While my teaching specialism is Biology, I have also taught Chemistry and Physics at Key Stages Three, Four, and A Level. I have a broad knowledge of the science curriculum and how it fits into schools' academic policies and wider educational policies. Additionally, I have a good understanding of the International Baccalaureate programs and vocational courses. I have written schemes of work and working policies for a department, as well as full risk assessments for practical work. Furthermore, I have experience with admitting new students to a school, whether it be a state school or an 11+ or Common Entrance at 13+. I have administered 11+ and 13+ examinations, as well as being part of a team of interviewers assessing a student's suitability for the school. Leggi di meno

I strive to be the best at all things I put my hands on, but I am also aware of my own limitations. I have always patiently listened if a student has come to me. I have advised them as far as my professional conduct allows, but have always known when to pass information on.

I have always supported the needs of any team I have worked in. As a tutor, I always encouraged my students to support each other in times of difficulty. Leggi di meno
