For tutoring, I combine different approaches to ensure students are able to learn. I use Socratic method to gauge how much the students understand the topic. If the understanding is not enough, demonstation of sample problems using real life scenarios in which students could relate would be best if applicable. I always do my best to be flexible based on student's background, experience, and knowledge.
I have been an online tutor to several students from various countries. Usually, we communicate through an audio call and a virtual whiteboard for explanation.
My specialization are engineering mathematics such as algebra, trigonometry, geometry, statistics, calculus (differential, integral, vector), and advanced mathematics. I keep myself with current curriculum by attending seminars and networking with teachers.
When requested, I send a feedback (preferably, weekly) to parents if there are challenges that the students must go through.
I usually leave homework for my students that they can work on to improve their skills when appropriate. I help them find reliable online exercises when needed.
Homework is given if reasonable. If possible, answers are left so students can check themselves if they got it right.
I take my time to observe my student as I gauge their understanding. Knowing how they learn and what interests them helps me adjust to my student's learning style.
As a tutor, I haven't experienced working students diagnosed with learning disabilities. However, Mathematics has always been challanging for most people. I make sure I have enough patience and firmness when teaching based on the student's personality.
