I am currently a student at King's College London Mathematics School. I have had a lot of experience in teaching mathematics at GCSE / AS to private students as well as small groups. As a tutor, I think it is very important to explain: Why maths concepts work the way they do, rather than just learning 'facts', as this provides both, a more thorough understanding of the subject and additional skills to tackle harder problems. In addition, having achieved grade 9 in Mathematics and A* with Distinction in Further Mathematics, I can say that I am very familiar with the GCSE Mathematics curriculum.
