As a graduate of Bachelor of Secondary Education, major in English, I believe that teaching is not just a profession but a calling that requires heart, resilience, and commitment. Raised in a humble family, my journey toward becoming a professional teacher was not easy. I faced financial struggles, family responsibilities, and personal challenges along the way. Despite poverty and hardships, I remained determined to finish my studies because I believe that education is the most powerful tool to change one’s life. These experiences strengthened my character, deepened my empathy, and inspired me to become a teacher who understands the struggles of my students. During my academic years, I actively engaged in research, particularly focusing on students’ internet dependency and their perceived capability in language research writing. My interest in this topic reflects my desire to understand modern learners and improve their academic performance in a technology-driven world. I completed my practice teaching with dedication and professionalism, earning the respect of my cooperating teachers and students. I am currently a Year 1 undergraduate at Hong Kong University, studying English Education (Double Degree). I previously attended King George V School and completed the IB diploma. Hi! I’m Arushi, a university student currently pursuing my degree. Alongside my studies, I enjoy helping younger students strengthen their English skills in a fun and comfortable way. I offer online English tutoring for kids aged 8–12, focusing on reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary building, and writing confidence. My lessons are interactive and relaxed, encouraging students to participate, ask questions, and enjoy learning instead of feeling pressured. Because I’m a student myself, I understand how important it is to make lessons engaging and relatable. I use simple explanations, real-life examples, and creative exercises to help children build a strong foundation in English while developing a genuine interest in the subject. I am delighted to be able to teach you or your child English! I am deeply passionate about English, having recently finished my Honours degree in English literature, and hope one day to become an academic in English. Currently I live in Sumner, New Zealand, and am happy to teach in Christchurch and Banks Peninsula. I am happy to teach English either as a school or university subject, or as a second language, depending on your needs. I have experience teaching a variety of different age groups, including NCEA preparation and primary level English. I have received immensely positive feedback. My secondary students in particular, have told me that my approach has immensely clarified such mystifying topics as essay writing, critical readings, and how to navigate NCEA assignments. I have extensive experience with the NCEA system, having gained a Level 3 excellence endorsement, and scholarships in English, Classics, and History. Additionally, I am also experienced with helping second language speakers. I have volunteered as a conversation leader with my University's ESL centre, and also often help out non-native speaker friends with proofreading assignments, etc. I also speak relatively fluent German and low intermediate Spanish, if this is of help.
