My name is Alan. I am a British citizen who was born in Hong Kong, so I am also a Permanent Resident there. Although I was educated entirely in the UK, I have always been multilingual—I spoke Hakka and Cantonese (Chinese dialects) at home, and learned French, German, and English at school. These days, I also speak Thai at an intermediate level, as my wife is a Thai diplomat and I am currently based in Bangkok.
