Passionate Chinese tutor for primary school students in Yew Tee/Choa Chu Kang area.
I am an experienced Chinese language tutor based in Singapore, in the Yew Tee/Choa Chu Kang area, specializing in teaching Upper Primary students. Born in China and raised in Singapore, I am fluent in both Mandarin and English, which allows me to connect easily with students and effectively teach them Chinese.
In addition to my language skills, I hold a degree in psychology, which has given me a deep understanding of child development and behavior. This knowledge allows me to better tailor my lessons to each student’s unique needs and learning style. I am able to create a comfortable and supportive environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow at their own pace.
My teaching style is interactive and student-centered, using games, storytelling, and practical conversations to make learning enjoyable. I focus on strengthening reading, writing, and speaking skills, while helping students build a strong foundation for their exams and overall language proficiency. Through patience, positive reinforcement, and consistent feedback, I help my students feel confident and motivated to excel in Chinese.
With my background in psychology and my experience in both English and Chinese, I offer a holistic approach to teaching, ensuring that students not only improve academically but also develop a lasting appreciation for the language.
My teaching style:
I focus on practical, everyday Chinese. My method includes real-life dialogues, pronunciation drills, and simple sentence patterns that you can use right away.
Typical class structure:
1. Warm-up and review
2. Main topic (pronunciation or conversation)
3. Practice through role-play or short exercises

- Graduated from the University of Hong Kong
- Full-time tutor with 6 years of tutoring experience
- Family tutor for 3 international school students
- Experienced in handling school administrative matters and designing curriculum for children
- Assisted students in achieving first place in Chinese language and improving academic results
- My teaching style has been well-received by parents. I not only focus on the students' schoolwork but also on training their study skills. For example, instead of relying on rote memorization for English and Chinese vocabulary words, I utilize interesting methods to help students remember the words. I have taken a course on memory study, allowing me to offer a unique approach to teaching that makes learning more enjoyable.
- Since each student has different needs, I welcome discussions with parents about their expectations for lessons. I tailor curriculum and lessons to meet the individual needs of each student. For example, I once had a student whose Chinese language skills were lacking due to studying in the UK for four years. The student, together with the parent, expressed the desire for engaging lessons that would spark an interest in learning (as the student found Chinese boring) and be tailored to the student's level. After five months of tutoring, the student achieved test scores of 75-80% in Chinese. An audio testimonial from the parent is available upon request.
Hi! It feels great to be your tutor. I am a Mandarin teacher with experience in multicultural environments. This diversity has given me great flexibility in the way I teach. I truly enjoy learning from mentors of other cultures, and I am an approachable tutor who is easy to get along with. I teach using a step-by-step, progressive approach until mastery is achieved. Depending on the student, I engage and manage them effectively.
If a student is struggling, I break down lessons into more manageable pieces until they become mentally comprehensible and digestible. Developing the learner’s skill takes time, so I believe it is important to set aside the necessary time and space for them to absorb the material. Lessons are presented in a way that is easy for the student to understand. The tools needed include audio, video, and other visual aids. It is also useful to introduce games that not only encourage the learner, but also help to build an innate foundational skill for more challenging information. This early foundation fosters the confidence that is essential for building healthy self-esteem.
With this in mind, children will begin to learn oral vocabulary alongside the correct introduction of pinyin tones. It is essential to adapt and learn to speak using proper tones that are understandable and close to a native accent. Fluency will gradually develop through the practice of more complicated sentences and phrases. Using songs and rhythms is also crucial for learning; lessons that include audio tools and recordings offer an advantage. Exposing a child to cartoons on television or other multimedia helps to improve oral and listening skills.
However, the focus in Mandarin is not only on reading and speaking. It is essential that the learner also acquires writing skills, starting with basic strokes. They should be encouraged to write with a pencil, and sometimes practice calligraphy. Basic strokes are taught in their simplest techniques, and the child can begin with simpler characters until they have memorized the correct sequence.
