Chittaranjan is a PhD scholar for Economic Policy with the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) in Bangkok, Thailand. He has received his postgraduate degree in Economics and International Cooperation and Development from Tribhuvan University and Midwestern University respectively. He is currently a facilitator of Economics at an International School, the Coordinator of the Center for Research and Development at King’s College, and an alumnus of the Cooperation and Development Network (CDN) in Italy. He has also been an active participant and organiser of the South Asian Economics Students’ Meet, a regional program funded by the World Bank. He specialises in designing methodologies for research and activities in the areas of resource economics, macroeconomics, and public economics.
He has completed the CDN Policy Oriented Research titled “Empowering Disadvantaged Rural Communities in the Face of Disasters: The Case of Sankhu and Khokana Historical Settlements in Earthquake Aftermath in Nepal". This research was funded by Foundation Assistance Internationale (FAI). He was also awarded a research grant by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) for the study on the “Economic Valuation of Harpan Khola Subwatershed at Panchase Mountain Ecosystem, Nepal”. During his undergraduate studies, he completed his thesis on “An Assessment of the Impact of Crime on Economic Development”, using panel data regression from the data of five South Asian countries. Currently, he has been working with his professors on a study of petty crime reporting behaviour in Thailand and sustainable disaster risk reduction (DRR) approaches, with a focus on gender empowerment. Furthermore, he will soon be part of a study focusing on the decreased confidence of people in the judicial system after involvement of the police in cases of petty crime in Thailand. He is actively looking for opportunities to facilitate students in developing economic concepts.
