My name is Shafaq Umar. This year marks my 20th year in teaching. I am currently residing and working in Thailand as a Project Based Learning Consultant. I hold a master's degree in Economics and a PGCE (UCL). I was chosen to work with a school in Bangkok from an IB school in Pakistan where I had been associated for 10 years. I feel blessed to have received many national and international PDs, which have broadened my horizons and helped me set SMART goals for the learners, enabling them to ‘learn to learn’. While I have always felt driven to be an early/primary school educator, the joy I feel from facilitating the growth and development of the students reaffirms my passion for my profession. I don't believe in cookie-cutter formats for the learners. I truly believe in 'tailored instruction' in alignment with individual learning needs. Each of us is unique and we all have the power to learn. Leadership, empathy, and communication are some of the other 21st-century skills that I like to foster in my learners to produce global-minded learners.

I have experience in teaching as an international youth theatre and drama teacher in Hong Kong for two years (mainly 3-11 year olds), co-hosting in workshops that focus on English articulation, speaking, expression, confidence, fluency, volume, and more. Language barriers are very common in my classroom due to most of my learners' home languages being IsiXhosa and Afrikaans, while being placed in an English class.
