English Tutor in Jurong (Distinction at secondary and tertiary levels)
Hello! I am Cassidy, currently a Year 3 student at NUS Law. Before university, I studied at SJI doing the International Baccalaureate Programme and completed my 'O' Levels at Crescent Girls School. I scored 40 points for the IB and achieved an L1R5 of 6 nett. Additionally, I obtained distinctions in English and Literature, receiving A1s in both subjects at 'O' Levels and a 7 for Higher Level Language & Literature in the IB.
Previously, I have tutored Primary School students from Grades 4-6, and I have witnessed their grades improve from scoring bands of 6 to 2/3.
My teaching philosophy is based on what I have found to be effective for myself as a student. I strongly believe in positive reinforcement and encourage students to learn by being friendly and approachable, so that they feel comfortable asking me questions. However, this does not mean I will compromise on what I believe is crucial for improvement in a subject - consistent hard work. I have seen this approach yield positive results with my previous students and it has been personally helpful to me as a former tutee. Before the first lesson, I will ask the student in advance about the areas/components they find challenging. Moreover, during the week, the student is welcome to ask me questions, and I am more than willing to respond through text or even a short video call, if necessary.
