I have a total of 12 years of teaching experience. I spent 8 years teaching mathematics in two highly successful independent schools in England before moving to Hong Kong, where I have spent the last 4 years teaching at GSIS. While in the UK, I gained experience teaching both A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics. I had numerous classes who achieved exclusively A*/A grades, and I had similar success with my IGCSE classes. I also helped those who found this subject more challenging reach their full potential. During my time at GSIS, I have gained experience delivering the IB HL Mathematics: Analysis & Approaches course. Additionally, I have been appointed as an examiner for the IB. I believe that nobody is inherently bad at math; we have too many bad teachers who don't teach math well. Mathematics is not difficult at all. It can be taught using creative methods to help the student grasp and understand the concept. I fell in love with math because of these methods, and I plan to help many students further their knowledge in math using these techniques. Hello! my name is Valentina, I am an international economics and business student at Erasmus university, and I have three years of informal experience as a tutor of high school Math subjects that go up to grade 12. I specifically spent most of my gap year teaching Precalculus, Calculus, Algebra, Trigonometry and Statistics to high school students. I consider that being me being a student has given me an advantage for teaching, as I have had to research and understand myself the best ways for learning complex topics and I can apply what has given me the best results with my students. In Maths, I mainly focus in helping the person develop problem solving skills by practicing a lot with a previously explained framework of steps. Struggling with a Math exercise and managing to find the way through it gives the student a deep understanding of the general steps needed to solve similar problems. This takes learning away from an average memory focused learning to a more dynamic and effective approach. After repeating that process continously with what has not been understood, I believe that any student can become good at Maths.
