Dedicated to helping students build confidence and competence in mathematics, I believe that every student can succeed in math with the right support and guidance. I am passionate about creating a positive and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and making mistakes.

I am a licensed professional teacher in my country. I have been teaching for almost five years now. My experience has helped me develop my skills as a teacher. I am a flexible teacher who loves to teach students. I am a graduate of Bachelor of Secondary Education majoring in Math. Currently, I am teaching Math for grades 7-12.

People are different. We learn in different ways and at different speeds. That is why I prioritize my learners interests and abilities in order to best teach them. I adjust to the learners ability and speed, forming lessons in a way in which the learner processes and retains information best. With me as a tutor, not only will you be learning so much, you will also enjoy doing it in the way that best suits you.

To Whom It May Concern, I decided to tutor part time for the same reason I decided to become an engineer. I love learning and troubleshooting. If you want to excel in a subject, you have to discover what you like about it. My approach focuses on helping people succeed through small incremental victories. This is how we get learning back to being rewarding and fun! I developed this process for learning when I was studying Industrial Engineering at USC. I took math and math oriented classes all 4 years including courses such as Calculus II, Probability, Linear Algebra & Statistics. Some of my accomplishments in math include: receiving a 5 out of 5 on the AP Calculus test, scoring a 790 out of 800 on the math portion of the SAT, making the dean's list at USC and receiving the highest score on a Calculus II midterm in a class of 50 students. Needless to say, I know algebra like the back of my hand! Before I went to USC I would regularly volunteer as a math tutor to other students at San Luis Obispo High School. It was so rewarding to hear students share how I had taken the stress out of homework and ultimately helped them pass their classes! Quick introduction: I have been doing part-time tutoring for the past 6 years. Since I was 15 years old, I have had a strong interest in mathematics, which has allowed me to understand the best way to grasp concepts and achieve top grades. I graduated as a scholar with first-class honors from NUS and am currently working as a software engineer. Teaching math has always been enjoyable for me, and I have been teaching part-time for 6 years now. At my new convenient location (Commonwealth MRT), I am looking to continue tutoring on the side. My name is Khirunisa Pillay and I am a 2nd-year medical student who achieved 7 As in matric. I am originally from Durban and am currently studying at the University of Pretoria. I have a deep love for volunteer work and testing out new recipes in the kitchen. My personal academic struggles mean I have an understanding that subjects like math can be daunting and overwhelming, but I am confident that with my prior experience in tutoring and passion for helping others, I can make this an exciting experience!

I love mathematics and believe every student has the ability to understand and do well in the subject. In my experience, it is generally a small misunderstanding or gap prior knowledge that prevents students from doing well. All that is required, is to find the explanation that makes sense to the individual student. I have had students fail a grade one year and the next year achieve an 80% average in the subject when moved to my class. I am situated in Cape Town (South Africa). A student once wrote in an essay to a colleague that unlike other math teachers, I never give up or tell someone they cannot do something. I will always keep finding a new way of explaining math until it makes sense. My method requires students to make the mistakes in the contact sessions so that we can remedy the problem areas in order to not be repeated in tests or exams.

Having been through the Scottish school system, I know first hand how difficult High School exams can be. I currently hold a 2:1 BSc (Hons) degree from the University of St Andrews, and I am continuing studying at the University of Edinburgh. During High School, I received straight As and took Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology to Advanced Higher level. I was awarded prizes for highest S5 attainment, as well as top in the country for Higher Chemistry and Advanced Higher Physics. I have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a true passion for teaching others and sharing knowledge. Flexible and willing to work at an appropriate pace, whilst also pushing hard to get the desired results.
