Passionate Maths & Science Tutor in Durban with University Teaching Experience
My name is Surprise, and I hold a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology and an Honours in Biochemistry. I have a passion for teaching and have tutored students in Mathematics and Science, helping them understand concepts in a clear and simple way. Hi! My name is Nikita—a tutor who speaks the language of teenagers while keeping learning real and solid.
I'm originally from Moldova, studied in the Netherlands, and work with students aged 9–14, primarily in math.
My experience with young people began at 16, as a volunteer at a children's summer camp, and grew into mentoring a group of 40 boys aged 12–13 in an international youth program—weekly calls, daily check-ins, and genuine involvement with each one.
What I've learned from all of this is that the biggest barrier to learning isn't the difficulty of the subject—it's the belief that studying has to be boring. My job is to break that. I explain material through examples that actually make sense to the student, move at their pace, and find exactly where they get stuck.
I'm currently tutoring my younger sister in math online—and yes, that's what inspired me to take this seriously. I care about results, but even more about the student actually wanting to show up next time.

Passionate and committed Maths/POA tutor in Pasir Ris.
I have taught secondary school mathematics (A and E maths, as well as lower secondary math) during my time at polytechnic and during National Service for over 4 years as a one-to-one tutor on a part-time basis (twice a week). I have helped my students improve their results. One of them, an Express student, achieved an A1 after I taught and guided her from Sec 3-4 for her 'O' level. Her mother hired me to improve her daughter's results as she had scored 60+ marks in her Sec 2 mathematics exam. Her mother hoped that one-on-one tuition would help her daughter's weakest subject, and I am glad to see that she achieved the desired result through her hard work.
Another student was recommended to me by her sister, who in turn was recommended by the first student's mother. This student had a weak foundation in math, scoring 50+ marks in her Sec 1 exam. I was able to help her improve her grades to 70+ in her 'N' level exam from the second half of Sec 2 to Sec 4. Due to her challenges, I spent more time than usual teaching this student. The extra effort paid off when I saw her finally improve her results.
I also shared my personal academic journey with the students, highlighting how I was a late bloomer in education, struggling during my secondary school years but excelling in my studies post-secondary education. I used this experience to encourage my students to work hard and be resilient.
In addition to my teaching experience, I have had a successful career and pursued continuous education, including earning an MBA and recently completing a course in Full Stack Web Development. With a degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, I have knowledge of both hardware and software/coding. In my professional roles, I applied my MBA learnings by managing the finances of the company, including setting up accounting systems, bookkeeping, preparing financial reports, and conducting financial analysis. I also worked with external auditors and accounting firms to register new companies and file financial reports with ACRA/IRAS. This practical experience will be beneficial in teaching Principles of Accounts and providing real-world applications of the subject.
Now that I am entering retirement, I am eager to teach part-time again. I am confident that I can pass on my knowledge and experiences to the younger generation to help them excel in their studies. I look forward to the opportunity to engage and mentor students who may benefit from my expertise.
