American Prep Style English for Young Learners in Bangkok
I'm a creative writing, drama, and interview prep teacher who has been working with small private classes and 1-on-1 pupils in Asia since 2015. I help native speakers and second-language learners of all ages and abilities to feel confident in their reading, speaking and writing skills.
In my tuition, we work in a Harkness seminar style, mirroring the format of prep schools and liberal arts colleges in the US, as many of my students are aiming to receive an offer there. The goal is to practice techniques and build confidence in order to be well-prepared when entering these learning settings, where questions and student-led analysis are expected.
Additionally, I have helped many applicants prepare for their university admissions processes, drawing on my experience as a Brown University Alumni interviewer.
Experienced Elementary Reading and Writing tutor in New York (14 yrs. Experience!)
I am an elementary teacher with fourteen years of classroom experience. I have New York State elementary and literacy certifications. My professional experience has allowed me to work with a diverse population of students. In addition, I have helped students of all ability levels in math, reading, writing, science and social studies throughout my years as a classroom teacher. My goal as a teacher is to not only teach the student subject matter, but to also help build confidence as a learner.
I’m Greis Torres, a New York City based reporter who has also dabbed her feet a little in the PR and democratic education worlds.
I graduated Cum Laude in May 2019 with a B.A. in Journalism and a minor in Anthropology from CUNY York College, where I was heavily involved in the student newspaper.
My work experience ranges from interning at a democratic school, working in CUNY York College’s official student newspaper, Pandora’s Box, and radio station, YC Radio, doing investigative reporting in NYC and interning at a public relations and marketing agency where I worked closely with the hospitality account executive.
Throughout my college career, I published over 30 articles in the official newspaper of my school where I became an editor and later, the editor-in-chief. I have experience writing features, spot news and in-depth stories. Outside of Pandora’s Box, I have also published stories in City Limits, Campus News and WhoWhatWhy.
A prominent in-depth story I reported on when I was the EIC of Pandora’s Box about a deal between CUNY York College and Royal Waste, a waste and recycle hauling company, rendered me a finalist for the Professional Society of Journalists Mark of Excellence In-Depth reporting (small) region 1.
Besides telling stories I’m also passionate about culture, languages (I am fluent both in Spanish and English, a beginner in French and would love to learn Finnish), singing, cooking and photography.
