Hi! My name is Aimee, and I'm a highly qualified EDB NET scheme teacher currently teaching P1-6 students at a primary school on Hong Kong Island. As someone who graduated in London with a First-Class Honours degree in Creative Writing, I have a passionate interest in literature and the English language and take great pleasure in teaching it. In addition to my BA, I also obtained an MA in the same subject. Furthermore, I hold a Cambridge English teaching certificate and have over 10 years of experience teaching in both the U.K and Hong Kong. As a result, I have experience with both the local and British curriculum and have taught both international and local students. My current work as a primary school teacher involves implementing the EDB curriculum for a diverse range of abilities through the teaching of phonics, oral lessons, shared reading, and guided reading. I teach specific reading techniques to enhance students' confidence and enjoyment, equipping them with the skills they need to become independent learners. I encourage students not only to speak, read, and write English but also to find genuine pleasure in doing so. After many fulfilling years teaching in Hong Kong, I am now preparing to change direction and will be returning to my home in the U.K, where I plan to establish my own online tutoring business. As a result, while I can meet you and your child in person until August, I will switch to full-time online tutoring afterward. I'm a 25-year old grammar nerd whose biggest strength is my language abilities. I have family living in both the UK (London and Birmingham, England) and in the US (New York), so I've grown up with the English language as well as my native Danish language. I am from Yorkshire, a county in the north of England known for its Roman and Viking heritage. At 18, I moved to Warwick in the heart of England to study Physics. Then, I moved even further south, to London. During my PhD in Geoscience in London, I started tutoring science privately. After completing my PhD, I lectured for 1 year at University College London. In 2020, I moved to Potsdam, where I spent 2 years as a researcher at the Deutsches GeoForschungsZentrum GFZ. In 2023, I began to return to teaching. Currently, I teach English and Yoga in Potsdam. In my lessons, we will engage in activities, games, watch videos, or listen to music to expose you to as much English as possible, just like in the real world. I can work with students online or in face-to-face settings. I use the PPP structure to prepare most of my lessons, which makes learning English easier. Examples are presented to the students first, then a practice session, and finally a production session where students work in groups, pairs, or independently to use English in integrated skills. Using the PPP structure maximizes the students' use of all necessary skills: speaking, listening, writing, reading, critical thinking, teamwork, autonomy, and vocabulary. As a graduate student in TESOL, I have developed my own assessments, tests, exams, and rubrics to supplement my students' learning based on what research has shown to be most effective.
