I am a mathematics PhD and former academic returning to teaching after a successful career in financial services. I offer tuition in both Mathematics and Latin. My mathematical background includes studying both pure and applied mathematics at Cambridge, followed by obtaining a PhD in applied mathematics and conducting two years of postdoctoral research at Oxford. My research, which has been published in five peer-reviewed papers, focused on differential and integral equations as well as fluid dynamics. Throughout my academic career, I tutored extensively in mathematics at all levels up to undergraduate, primarily through university arrangements but also privately. While working in financial services, I continued informal tutoring by helping friends' children with A-levels and university exams, as well as teaching my own children. I have successfully tutored two of my children in Latin (a subject not offered at their school) up to GCSE/AS-level. My teaching approach emphasizes developing a deep understanding of fundamental concepts. In teaching Latin, I emphasize the importance of mastering grammar and vocabulary while understanding the language's underlying structure. In mathematics, I focus on applied maths at the degree level or anything at the A-level. For Latin, I can teach anything up to A-level. I typically prefer to work remotely but can consider alternatives, including using my own premises where I have a dedicated room for teaching.

Hello! my name is Valentina, I am an international economics and business student at Erasmus university, and I have three years of informal experience as a tutor of high school Math subjects that go up to grade 12. I specifically spent most of my gap year teaching Precalculus, Calculus, Algebra, Trigonometry and Statistics to high school students. In Maths, I mainly focus in helping the person develop problem solving skills by practicing a lot with a previously explained framework of steps. Struggling with a Math exercise and managing to find the way through it gives the student a deep understanding of the general steps needed to solve similar problems. This takes learning away from an average memory focused learning to a more dynamic and effective approach. After repeating that process continously with what has not been understood, I believe that any student can become good at Maths.
