Nice to meet you! My name is Kate, and I am currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Philosophy at Erasmus University Rotterdam. I graduated from the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in Grenaa, Denmark, in 2020. Prior to that, I obtained an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program Diploma from Riga State Gymnasium No. 2 in Riga, Latvia. During my academic journey, I developed a strong passion for mathematics and biological sciences. In my final two years of high school, I dedicated my time to volunteering as a tutor for refugee children in Grenaa, Denmark. Drawing from my own experiences as both a tutor and a student receiving tutoring during my early schooling, I deeply understand the dynamics and rewards of academic support and achievement through diligence. Furthermore, I have expanded my knowledge in educational psychology by completing two courses during my Bachelor's studies. These courses have equipped me with valuable insights into effective tutoring strategies, enhancing my ability to support and empower students in their academic endeavors.

I believe that learning a subject is not just about memorizing equations and definitions, but rather, it is more about understanding the underlying concepts. This is something I have been doing for many years, and it has only made me stronger in the subject. I also believe that instead of simply learning what is in the book, if students are able to understand the practical applications of these theories in the real world, they will be able to relate to them effortlessly, which will make them stronger in the subject. Anza has spent five years working consistently as both a tutor and a teaching assistant. She began her professional career as a tutor and teaching assistant at Sam Hughes Elementary School in Arizona. She loved this job as much as the teachers and students enjoyed having her, and continued in this role for four years. Upon graduation from the University of Arizona (where she also worked as a preceptor in college courses), Anza began a new job at Kumon Math and Reading Center in Los Angeles. She quickly moved up the ranks to become a lead teacher and administrative assistant working with students from pre-school to 4th grade. Anza now lives in New York City and hopes to continue the work she is so passionate about. While working with Anza, students can expect an environment where questions are encouraged, and getting something wrong only means you are one step closer to understanding how to get it right. Learning should not be a stressful pursuit of grades but an opportunity to know more about the world and ourselves. Anza is patient, conscientious, and believes that when given the correct individualized tools for learning, each student is capable of not only thriving academically but also enjoying the education process.

As an international Mathematics and English language teacher, I've worked in 31 countries on 3 continents, over a period of 25 years. I've taught some of the richest and some of the poorest children and young adults in these countries. I'm a multi-culture person with roots in few European countries and South Africa. Presently I run a pre and primary school in Zambia, Africa, where I teach all subjects to junior high-school level - following the Cambridge or Abeka curriculum.

I have recently completed a PGCE, which has provided myself with the opportunity to teach groups of various ages and backgrounds. By working with students of different ability levels, my teaching toolkit has focused on stretching and challenging high achieving students as well as segmenting tasks into smaller, achievable chunks to those who require more time. In addition to teaching a traditional group, one-to-one sessions with students have allowed me to tailor material to the needs of specific students, which will be echoed in these sessions, utilising techniques deemed most appropriate for each student. With experience in teaching, this has allowed me to develop a variety of methods to improve and enhance learners of all abilities. Based in Manchester, primarily working with adult learners, scaffolding and teaching material in incremental steps have allowed learners, over time, to enhance their learning and go from early days on their respective courses to confident individuals in their subject field. The teaching techniques involved include a regular reiteration of crucial content, usage of past papers and exam board material, checking of student understanding as well as a learner-based approach to ensure sessions allow learners to progress.
