Hello! :) My name is Nora Gurung and I am an ambitious, multilingual (English, Finnish, French, German and Nepalese) and thoughtful people person who loves to help others. I have lived in various different countries including Luxembourg, Finland, Scotland, England, and the Netherlands. Together with my multicultural background, I adapt my Master's degree in Clinical Psychology (MSc) into my teaching style - I have an empathetic and person-oriented approach towards every child and student and able to adapt to person-specific needs. I mainly teach English and Mathematics - a passion I discovered as a volunteer English Teacher in various classrooms and schools across the countryside of Thailand a few years ago. :) I currently live in the heart of Berlin, more specifically in the Northern part of Schöneberg and am able to easily travel across the city. I am a Computer Engineer with more than 5 years of experience in tutoring university students and in schools. My area of expertise is high school subjects and engineering courses, focusing on Programming in C++, python and Java, Physics, IGCSE Physics, Economics at Micro and Macro levels, Algebra, Calculus, Statistics, and other math topics. In addition, I teach kids and teenagers how to create their own mobile apps and games on iPhone/Android.

I am currently a master's student in astrophysics at UvA. I am well-versed in bachelor-level topics of Mathematics and Physics. I completed my bachelor's from the Indian Institute of Technology, one of the top institutes in India. I am currently staying in Nieuw West, Amsterdam. I believe that learning a subject is not just about memorizing equations and definitions, but rather, it is more about understanding the underlying concepts. This is something I have been doing for many years, and it has only made me stronger in the subject. I also believe that instead of simply learning what is in the book, if students are able to understand the practical applications of these theories in the real world, they will be able to relate to them effortlessly, which will make them stronger in the subject. I incorporate these principles into my teaching methods so that I can effectively convey as much information as possible.

I have 9 years of experience in one-on-one teaching. I am experienced in teaching Chinese, Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, and Science (Physics and Chemistry) from Primary to O-level.

I have recently completed a PGCE, which has provided myself with the opportunity to teach groups of various ages and backgrounds. By working with students of different ability levels, my teaching toolkit has focused on stretching and challenging high achieving students as well as segmenting tasks into smaller, achievable chunks to those who require more time. In addition to teaching a traditional group, one-to-one sessions with students have allowed me to tailor material to the needs of specific students, which will be echoed in these sessions, utilising techniques deemed most appropriate for each student. With experience in teaching, this has allowed me to develop a variety of methods to improve and enhance learners of all abilities. Based in Manchester, primarily working with adult learners, scaffolding and teaching material in incremental steps have allowed learners, over time, to enhance their learning and go from early days on their respective courses to confident individuals in their subject field. The teaching techniques involved include a regular reiteration of crucial content, usage of past papers and exam board material, checking of student understanding as well as a learner-based approach to ensure sessions allow learners to progress.
