One thing I like to do during one on one tutoring is using my journalism skills to interview my student. As I learn about their likes and interests, I tailor the lesson to be more relevant for them. I will teach basic lessons in citations and grammar, but as far as content I will have the student talk their way through their own thoughts and ideas. I advise them to write the way they speak.
