Hello! My name is Pat Joe, but you can call me PJ.
I am excited to offer my tutoring services in a range of subjects, including English, Physical Education, Biology, and Mathematics for younger students (please do get in touch if you require something else, and together we can see if it is feasible).
Based in Tai Po, I am happy to travel to meet the needs of my students. My unique background as a former professional rugby player, combined with my experience as a learning support assistant, equips me to support students in overcoming challenges and developing essential life skills.
Unique Qualifications:
Former Professional Rugby Player:
My experience as a professional rugby player has taught me the importance of discipline, resilience, and teamwork. These qualities translate into my approach to education, where I emphasize goal-setting and perseverance. I aim to inspire my students to tackle obstacles with confidence and determination.
Learning Support Assistant Experience:
Before accepting my rugby contract, I worked for a year as a learning support assistant in an international school. This role allowed me to cultivate a deeper understanding of diverse learning needs and develop tailored strategies to support students. I gained valuable insights into effective teaching techniques and the importance of fostering a positive learning environment.
Holistic Approach to Education:
I believe in a holistic approach that addresses not only academic needs, but also social and emotional development. Creating a supportive and nurturing environment is essential, allowing students to express themselves freely. By fostering communication skills and social awareness, I help students build lasting relationships and confidence in their abilities.
Understanding Local Context:
Having been born and raised in Hong Kong, I have a deep understanding of the unique academic and social pressures students face. This insight allows me to tailor my teaching methods to meet the specific needs of students in this context, helping them navigate challenges with resilience and grace. I am also familiar with the UK curriculum as I lived and attended school there from the age of 12-20. I am able to leverage my breadth of multicultural education to help understand my students' needs.
Passion for Helping Others:
At the core of my tutoring philosophy is a commitment to empowering students to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. I recognize that every student is unique, and I take the time to build meaningful relationships with them. By understanding their individual strengths and challenges, I can provide personalized support that fosters growth and development.
