12 years of teaching experience, a master's degree in Education, and an English degree from Columbia University help me help you with reading, writing, and standardized tests. I have a wide range of approaches for different kinds of learners, whether you're working on the basics or fine-tuning your skills.
I will support you with reading strategies based on your needs. If you're confused by a novel, facing long study sessions with a textbook, or trying to build your vocabulary, I'll provide approaches to take on your assignment with confidence.
I teach writing step-by-step and can help you make a great impression with your college essay, craft a strong research paper, or prove your point in a persuasive argument. I clearly explain grammar to take the stress out of writing correct sentences.
To boost your score on standardized tests, I teach methods you need for NY State exams and the SHSAT, SAT, and ACT. Multiple-choice tests don't just test your knowledge, they test your test-taking skills! I'll coach you to make the best use of time on test day, and to avoid getting distracted by wrong answer choices to get your best score.
I'm happy to work with adult learners as well as young people.
I currently serve students in Queens, Manhattan, and Brooklyn. Read less

Many students learn best with the use of technology; I use computer resources such as slideshow presentations and can recommend online resources for students to use between tutoring sessions. These methods often help students learn more quickly than they would by just hearing a tutor talk.
Visuals also help many learners, so I use graphic organizers and images.
As well, relationships are important! I get to know students' interests and personalities to understand how to teach them best. Read less
