Questions for You

Q: What is your approach to teaching writing, and how do you help students develop their writing skills?

I teach writing as a process. We start with planning and organization, then move through drafting, revising, and editing as I was taught as the editor of my high school year book. I give feedback at each stage, so students build confidence and understand why changes improve their writing. Practice topics are connected to things that matter to the student. I write content online and enjoy helping students learn to write and I like proofreading editing too

Q: How do you help students with grammar, spelling, and punctuation?

I focus on the errors that affect meaning and clarity first. Rather than drilling rules over and over. I teach grammar in context using sentences and paragraphs from the student's own writing. This makes corrections easier to remember and apply going forward. I use mouth charts to show position of tongue, teeth and lips to help produce the sound of varuous consonants and vowel sounds,

Q: What is your approach to teaching reading, and how do you help students improve their reading comprehension skills?

I like to try a mix of pre-reading strategies, guided questions, and post-reading discussion. I help students identify main ideas, make inferences, and understand vocabulary in context. I like work with texts that is just above the student's current level so they are challenged without being to overwhelmed.

Q: How do you help students with literary analysis and critical thinking skills?

I don't do literary analysis; but for critical thinking skills, I guide students to look beyond what a text says to what it means. I help them to try and examine the theme of the story or article and other things like character motivation and tone of the dialogue.

Q: How do you help students with pronunciation and enunciation?

This is my favorite teaching subject along with business English. I help students work on individual sounds, stress patterns, and connected speech, but first they have to learn the vowel and consonants sounds and how they are produced. I pay close attention to common challenges based on a student's first language and use targeted drills alongside natural conversation practice. Students hear themselves improve quickly when we focus on the right areas.

Q: How do you help students with public speaking or presentation skills?

I haven't taught presentation or public speaking; but we read many articles and have discussions about topics of interest; I encourage them to express their opinions.

Q: Can you explain complex English grammar rules in simpler terms for easier understanding?

AI have been explaining grammar to adult learners for years and have learned that most rules become clear when you connect them to real examples. I avoid heavy technical language unless the student prefers it, and I always check for understanding before moving on. It all starts with the parts of speech and adding diffent pieces slowly but methodically.

Q: How do you motivate students who struggle with the language?

I start by finding out what the student wants to do with their English, then I show them how each lesson connects to that goal. When students can see how far they have come, frustration turns into motivation. I also keep sessions encouraging and try to send a message about something they did good after the lesson.

Q: Are you familiar with the English curriculum and course requirements at my school?

I just go with what I know and if students want specific course requirements I informe them to let me know and I will do my best to find lessons that may correspon to what they are learing in school. Sometimes I ask students to share their syllabus, course materials, or assignment instructions at the start so I can see exactly what is expected. I try to adapt and am comfortable working with academic, professional, or test-prep requirements if I have the opportunity to preview some lessons prior.

Q: How do you help students prepare for English exams and assignments?

I enjoy helping students prep for the IELTS exam. I break down what the exam and build sessions around those specific skills. I share test-taking strategies and I help students understand the prompt, plan their response, and review before we go to the next steps.

Q: How do you ensure that students are actively engaged during tutoring sessions?

I try to keep sessions conversational and interactive. I ask questions, invite students to share opinions, and vary activities so no session feels the same. I adjust on the spot when needed.

Q: Can you help with test-taking strategies for English exams?

Yes. I mainly tell them to think before you chose and eliminate wrong answer choices, handle reading passages efficiently, and approach writing tasks under time pressure.

Q: Are you willing to provide additional practice problems or resources for independent study?

Sometimes I give after class resources or practice sheets if we didnt finish a lesson,

Q: Are you able to provide assistance with English language certification exams, such as TOEFL or IELTS?

Yes, I have an IELTS Specialist Certificate and have provided practice for many students since 2019.

Q: Can you provide guidance on choosing appropriate reading materials for improving English language skills?

Yes. I recommend materials based on the student's current level, interests, and goals. I prefer teachsing young adutls and older adults as I have many books on PDF that I can share with them.

Q: How do you help students with business English skills, such as writing professional emails or conducting meetings in English?

Business English is a focus area for me, grounded in my 20-plus years in Human Resources. I teach the structure and tone of professional communication including emails, reports, and workplace conversations. We practice real scenarios so students are ready to use what they learn right away. I have tons of resource lessons for teaching a variety of Business English topics.

Q: How do you help students with understanding and applying literary devices in English literature?

I don't use literary devices as I don't tutor in English literature.

Q: How do you encourage students to pursue their own writing interests in English?

When the subject matters to the student, the writing can improve naturally. If they ask for extra helping in pursuing writing further I have platforms that they can write on and learn many ways to enhance their writing.
