One of the most effective ways to improve grammar and punctuation is to read, which has to pay attention to grammar conventions. Where are these authors placing commas? Where are they using punctuation to separate sentences, phrases, or ideas? How are they formatting lists, quotations, or long sentences? Use the structures in your reading as models when you write. The more you read, the more you will be able to recognize and adopt the use of grammar and punctuation.

Q: What is your approach to teaching reading, and how do you help students improve their reading comprehension skills?

Reading comprehension strategies work through many different mechanisms – all focused on improving the understanding of the meaning of text effectively. Common elements include: explicit teaching of strategies; teachers questioning pupils to apply key steps; summarising or identifying key points; metacognitive talk to model strategies; using graphic or semantic organisers; using peer and self-questioning strategies to practice the strategies (such as reciprocal questioning); and pupils monitoring their comprehension and identifying difficulties themselves.

Engaging in hands-on projects where students need to collaborate, communicate, analyze information, and find solutions to their challenges is a great way to develop their critical thinking skills.

Q: How do you help students with public speaking or presentation skills?

Give a mock presentation of your speech in advance, so you can determine if you’ve organized the information cohesively and clearly. It may help to talk out loud to an imaginary audience or in front of a mirror, but it’s even more effective to practice with the help of a supportive friend, or family member as an audience.

Q: Can you explain complex English grammar rules in simpler terms for easier understanding?

A complex sentence is a type of sentence that includes at least one independent clause and at least one dependent clause. These clauses are connected using subordinating conjunctions or relative pronouns. The independent clause can stand alone as a complete sentence, while the dependent clause cannot.

To motivate students struggling with language learning, create a supportive environment, personalize learning, focus on real-world applications, and provide clear, achievable goals with regular feedback and encouragement.
