I received my PhD from Johns Hopkins, majoring in organic chemistry. I did a postdoc at UC Berkeley, working on organic synthesis of natural products. I also worked in pharmaceutical companies for 20 years, and know about medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, and new drug design. The core part of all these is Organic chemistry and organic synthesis, and Orgo has become part of my life!
I deeply understand organic chemistry and would like to pass on the experience to my students. I also work at Varsity and receive five-star ratings from my students. I can help with Orgo homework, exams and specific topics. I can also help prepare MCAT (Orgo part). I know the reactions/concepts the professors would like to test as I had been the teacher/instructor for new employees while working in industry. I can teach the tricks in memorizing and solving problems, and my students like them a lot! I prefer one-on-one teaching as I can teach in detail and tailor to the student's needs. All my students passed their tests after studying with me---they would like to share the good news with me, and I feel so happy for them and am glad my experience and knowledge can help promote their careers! For my teaching style, I believe that each student is different, and when I first meet him/her, my first task is to identify his strengths and weaknesses in organic chemistry. Then we work on his/her weakness by starting with concrete, simple examples. With my PhD in organic chemistry, I can view the subject from a higher vantage point, and see the bigger picture clearly and how different parts fit together. Read less
