Hello! I'm Pat, a current Astronomy MSc student at Leiden University. I received my BS in Astronomy and Physics from the University of Washington in 2023 and have been tutoring online ever since.

I thoroughly enjoy helping students succeed in what are often viewed as unnecessarily difficult introductory physics courses. Through personal experience and feedback from students, these classes are not typically taught in the most effective way. I hope to help you understand the material through an example-driven approach instead of the typical lecture style you may see in your class.

I also have experience helping students with upper-level physics and astronomy classes such as classical mechanics, quantum mechanics, and special and general relativity.

Additionally, for high school students who are looking to apply to universities in the United States, I also tutor the SAT and various AP classes. I grew up in the US so I have a very good understanding of the wide array of standardized tests universities expect students to have taken and excelled on. I am happy to help you prepare for them if that aligns with your goals.

My teaching method is centered around working through problems together. I found, through my years of studying physics, that I learned and retained information best when my teacher presented a problem that I was to work through, but they didn't just leave me stranded. They would give small hints to guide me in the right direction when I got lost. It is the art of hinting towards the right answer without outright giving it that I focus on. Read less
