Questions for You

Q: What areas of Chemistry do you specialize in, and what level of Chemistry do you usually teach?

I specialize in Chemistry as a component of Combined Science, focusing on fundamentals, chemical reactions, atomic structure, bonding, acids, bases, and other key topics that appear in N-Level and O-Level exams. I usually teach Secondary 1–4 (Grade 7–10) students, helping them master difficult concepts and prepare confidently for their exams.

Q: What types of resources or technology do you use to support your Chemistry lessons?

I use a combination of practice questions, visual aids, interactive explanations, and real-world examples to make Chemistry easy to understand. I also incorporate past exam papers and online resources to help students prepare effectively for their exams. Additionally, I use my iPad to draw diagrams, solve problems step by step, and provide a more engaging and clear learning experience for my students.

Q: How do you approach teaching Chemistry concepts to students who may struggle with Chemistry?

I know first hand how challenging Chemistry can be. I failed Chemistry myself before turning things around and scoring an A in my O-Levels. This experience helps me connect with struggling students and guide them step by step toward understanding difficult concepts. I break down complex ideas into simple explanations, use real life examples, and provide plenty of practice to help them grow in confidence and achieve their best grades

Q: Do you have experience with laboratory experiments, and how do you incorporate these into your Chemistry lessons?

Yes. I have experience with laboratory experiments from my secondary school and university modules. While we may not perform lab experiments directly during tutoring sessions, I use my lab experience to bring Chemistry to life. I explain real world applications and demonstrate key concepts through stories, visual aids, and interactive explanations, helping students connect theory with practice. This makes learning more engaging, relevant, and easy to understand.

Q: What is your approach to teaching organic chemistry, and how do you make the subject engaging and accessible for students?

Organic Chemistry can be challenging, but I make it accessible and engaging by breaking down complex structures and reactions into simple, step-by-step explanations. I use diagrams and real-world examples to aid understanding and retention. My aim is to help students see the logic and patterns in organic reactions, turning a difficult topic into something they can feel more comfortable with and even enjoy.

Q: How do you help students prepare for chemistry competitions, college applications, or other academic opportunities in chemistry?

I help students prepare for competitions and college by focusing on advanced problem-solving and key concepts, with tailored practice and guidance to boost confidence and skills.
