I am presently a Senior Research Associate at the University of Johannesburg. I research learning and educational development. I am also an editor of journals and books in the field of education, transformation, and democracy. I help with study and learning skills in various subjects. I assist in preparing for exams, writing essays and assignments, as well as research proposals and submissions of assignments, theses, final projects, and dissertations.
My specializations include academic writing, research epistemology, methodologies, methods and theories, critical thinking, study, learning and academic skills, critical engagement with ideas, writing and defending original ideas, explaining ideas in an academic manner, communicating ideas clearly, formulating research questions, deconstructing ideas, constructing, validating and invalidating theories and ideas.
For more than twenty years, I have been preparing students for university life in the U.K, Israel, France, and South Africa. I have assisted colleagues with publications and teaching, mentored and prepared disadvantaged students in South Africa for degrees and helped them secure good jobs. I have worked with researchers at all levels to publish their ideas and supervised students for successful degree completion.
I have conducted numerous education workshops on succeeding at university, PhD research, and academic careers.
I earned a PhD in education, psychology, and philosophy from the University of Bath, England. In my PhD, I developed dialectical methods of conceptualizing human existence and the human subject based on the pursuit of a more meaningful and fulfilling life. This approach focuses on transforming dissatisfaction and frustration into a more fulfilling life for individuals and communities.
My personal mission is to empower struggling students to fulfill their ambitions.
Furthermore, I developed dialectical, democratic, and dialogical methods of teaching and learning in my PhD, based on co-enquiries, reflections, and dialogues on various subjects.
I also completed an individual postgraduate program at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in the humanities and social sciences. This program aimed to critique and formulate more humanizing, transforming, and democratic heuristic tools in education, social science, and psychology – a focus that has become central to my career and life.
My B.Sc. and Honours degrees were in Psychology with French Studies from London, England. During this period, I supported myself through private teaching and tutoring.
In 2012, I came to South Africa to do postdoctoral and research fellowships in education, psychology, democracy, and transformation. I further refined and tested my educational methods with South African students, academics, and residents of disadvantaged areas, aiming to transition from dehumanizing oppression to participative humanizing democracy.
I have been teaching and tutoring at universities, schools, and privately for more than twenty years in France, Israel, the U.K, the U.S, and South Africa.
