I graduated from Oxford with a top First in my year in History and Modern Languages. I taught literature, language, and translation for several years while completing a Doctorate. Afterwards, I worked full-time at Oxford as a Lecturer and organized admissions for Modern Languages for 6 years. I find that the best approach in tutoring is always to adapt to the student's own situation. That's the point of one-to-one tutoring. Otherwise, another format is best. Some students thrive in an Oxford-style, fast-paced tutorial with lots of difficult questions. Others require lots of encouragement and explanation, starting from basic principles. The important thing is to create the right environment so that the student wants to learn and to encourage interaction. Read less
