Hello! My name is Sofija, and I'm an experienced tutor in Amsterdam specializing in teaching the English language, literature, and writing. I have plenty of diverse experience, from teaching creative writing to middle-school students, to working with graduating high-school students on their final college-prep exams and papers. I am also an essay specialist and an experienced coach in college applications, particularly for those seeking to apply to college in the United States.

I received my Bachelor's diploma in writing from Brown University and am currently studying Literature at Vrije Universiteit. Other qualifications include TEFL certification to teach English as a second language, literature prizes and publications, and the completion of an Honors Bachelor Thesis, graduating magna cum laude. I have worked with children and young adults throughout my life and have experience with both teaching and engaging learners with their study materials.

I try to tailor my methods to the individual as much as possible, but I find that overall giving agency to the student is most important. Making mistakes and finding them yourself is what will actually lead you to learn. You won't find me editing papers so that they're clean and proofread- you'll find me asking the student to read through themselves and work alongside them to guide them into realizing what could have been framed better- I find this to be much more effective and encouraging.
