Questions for You

Q: What teaching methods do you use to help students learn Math concepts and solve problems?

I use different kind of methods for each student basing on their grade level and year level. For grade 6 students, I would make use of visuals because it is easier for them to understand the concept if I use it. I would also incorporate games or puzzles incorporating math questions for the session to be more engaging and to also teach the student a little bit of logic. For high school students, I will incorporate a cooperative learning method to increase the chances of engagement between the tutor and tuttee. I would also provide mind exercises in between breaks to offer the tuttee a little bit to refresh his/her mind. Lastly, I would end the session with an open ended question or giving the tuttee a pen and paper exercise. For college students, I would like to focus more on determining their weakness in a math topic. Presumably, I will provide the students first with a pre-assessment about the different topics of basic and advanced mathematics. After the pre-assessment, I would incorporate a little bit of an analysis of his/her strengths and come up with an effective tutoring notes and lessons.

Q: Do you have experience with online teaching platforms or virtual tutoring, and what is your preferred method of communication with students?

I did not have a first hand formal experience in tutoring. I only did math tutorials for college engineering and high school students when I was part of an organization who offers this service. For communication, I prefer to teach the student face to face and online.

Q: What Math topics or concepts are you particularly skilled in teaching, and how do you keep up to date with changes in the curriculum?

I am particularly skilled in Algebra, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus and Geometry. I keep up to date with changes in the curriculum by checking the DEPEd and CHED websites for theire announcement.

Q: How do you communicate with parents about their child's progress and any challenges they may be facing in learning Math?

I would tell them first the student's key strengths in mathematics and later on explain their challenges and weak points to a math topic. It is also better to show them their child's progress and then propose a lesson plan that could help the student.

Q: Do you provide any additional resources or materials to supplement your lessons, such as practice exercises or online tutorials?

I do offer additional resources like supplementary notes and practice exercises.

Q: What is your approach to homework assignments, and how do you ensure students understand the concepts covered in class?

For homework assignments, I would create, basing from the topics discussed, an easy, average and difficult question. However, before providing them homework, I would ask the tuttee questions about the topic and if he/she understood the lesson.

Q: What steps do you take to ensure that your teaching approach is compatible with the student's learning style?

Before the session, I would ask the student first about his/her preffered style in learning. It would be better to ask them beforehand than to observe because it will take much time to come up with new strategies.

Q: Do you have experience working with students with learning disabilities or special needs, and how do you adapt your teaching methods to accommodate their needs?

I had none. However, if I encounter students with these problems, I would focus mainly in teaching with visuals because it is really effective to teach with it rather than teaching in a whiteboard.
