Questions for You

Q: What teaching methods do you use to help students learn Math concepts and solve problems?

I focus on breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps, ensuring students grasp the foundational principles before moving on to more advanced topics. I use a variety of practice problems to reinforce learning, gradually increasing difficulty to build confidence and problem-solving skills. I also encourage students to think critically about different approaches to solving problems, helping them to develop a deeper understanding and flexibility in tackling mathematical challenges. Regular feedback and revision sessions are integral to my approach, ensuring that students can track their progress and address any areas of difficulty.

Q: Do you have experience with online teaching platforms or virtual tutoring, and what is your preferred method of communication with students?

I have been teaching students aged 5-14 since I was in Year 11. Currently, I teach students from Year 2 to Year 11, focusing on IGCSE preparation and basic Maths and English skills. I usually prefer online lessons; however, I can alternate methods based on the students' needs and preferences

Q: What Math topics or concepts are you particularly skilled in teaching, and how do you keep up to date with changes in the curriculum?

I am skilled in teaching any topics in IGCSE Maths, as well as English Literature and Language (First Language) and Science. I regularly check various exam boards for updates on exam topics and styles, then adjust my lesson materials and teaching methods to stay current with these changes.

Q: How do you communicate with parents about their child's progress and any challenges they may be facing in learning Math?

I ask for the parents’ preferences and use the platform they choose to provide updates on their child’s progress and challenges. I also typically provide a summary document of the child’s progress at the end of each lesson.

Q: Do you provide any additional resources or materials to supplement your lessons, such as practice exercises or online tutorials?

I provide students with essential materials, including those I created and used when I was studying for the IGCSE, which I found useful. I also give them both hard and soft copies of past papers and practice exercises.

Q: What is your approach to homework assignments, and how do you ensure students understand the concepts covered in class?

I usually plan and give short quizzes to check if the student has fully understood the main concepts of the topic we covered that day. Based on their scores from these quizzes, I determine their homework topics. I also encourage students to highlight and write down any questions they are unsure of in their homework, so they can ask me when we meet for the next lesson.

Q: What steps do you take to ensure that your teaching approach is compatible with the student's learning style?

I first assess their strengths and preferences through initial discussions and diagnostic activities. I then tailor my lessons accordingly, whether it involves visual aids, interactive problem-solving, or step-by-step explanations. I regularly seek feedback from both the student and their parents to make any necessary adjustments. My goal is to create a supportive environment where the student feels confident and engaged, allowing them to thrive in their IGCSE Maths studies.

Q: Do you have experience working with students with learning disabilities or special needs, and how do you adapt your teaching methods to accommodate their needs?

I don't have experience working with students with disabilities.
