I want to sincerely thank Matei for his incredible patience and support during my pre-calculus preparation. I reached out to him just one week before my exam, starting with a grade of 4, and thanks to his clear explanations and dedication, I was able to improve to a 7.5. Matei has a great way of breaking down difficult concepts and making them much easier to understand. He stayed patient throughout, no matter how many questions I had, and always made sure I truly understood the material instead of just memorizing it. I’m really grateful for his help and would highly recommend him to anyone who needs support with math!

Matei is a great tutor to work with. He walked me through core concepts carefully and made sure I have a deep and intuitive understanding of the subject, rather than simply walk me through a problem's solution. He also has a great skill in identifying weak areas and focusing his attention on those. I especially appreciated the care put into helping me build an intuition, building up confidence for the exam, and having the patience for when something simply wouldn't click for me.

Matei is a great tutor, he helped me in both calculus and linear algebra, I was failing both and ended up passing thanks to him. He explains everything clearly and got through many topics in a short amount of time.

My opinion on classes with Matei is that it has helped me a lot and made me more confident in my maths ability. The things i like about his coaching style is that he will help me when I need help but also he lets me try and figure it out by myself instead of him just explaining straight away which i find very helpful as it improves my problem solving skills and makes me more aware of what i have to do. Furthermore his explanations are very good and helpful as it helps to fix the doubts that I may have depending on the circumstance. Overall I think Mateis tutoring style is very helpful and that I think that I have benefited from it.

Working with Matei on Mathematics 1 has been a genuinely wonderful experience. He is incredibly patient, understanding, and consistently clear in his explanations, even when I found certain topics challenging. Thanks to his strong ability to break down complex ideas, the difficult concepts in this course became much easier to grasp. He is always supportive and open to any questions I have. I would highly recommend Matei to anyone studying mathematics — he is not only an excellent tutor but also a truly great person to learn from.

Matei is an incredibly friendly and respectful teacher, who had a great understanding of the course I was working on and his experience with Calculus showed. Explanations were easy to follow and anything I struggled with I could get explained very clearly and thoroughly. Talking to Matei was more like talking to a friend, you would never feel ashamed of not knowing something and he was always very supportive and reassuring. His guidance helped me a lot by giving me exercises tailored to my level and the current topics of my calculus course. With his help I finally managed to not just pass, but get very good results in the exams. Calculus 1, which was a course I was dreading and had to retake multiple times, is now among my best final grades with a final grade of 8. This proved to me the effectiveness of the tutorings and especially showed off the confidence I got from them, as I was extremely well prepared for both the midterm and final exams. I can only recommend his classes :)

I found Matei's classes extremely helpful and enjoyable. We always managed to cover the material, and he also offered in-depth explanations and useful tips about the subjects. What I especially liked about Matei's tutoring style was that he wrote down and illustrated important concepts, which I could use as notes and summaries. Additionally, he was very flexible with his time, making it easy to plan our lessons.

Questions for You

Q: What teaching methods do you use to help students learn Math concepts and solve problems?

We start by tackling concrete problems to scan for strengths and weaknesses in the understanding of the material, and by checking for how confident the student feels with different topics. Taken together, these 2 provide me with the right mix between teaching the theory and practicing with questions, although I try to keep the theory as short and concrete as possible, and focus on bulding skills and confidence by solving problems.

Q: Do you have experience with online teaching platforms or virtual tutoring, and what is your preferred method of communication with students?

I am experienced with using Zoom for smooth Online tutoring sessions, and I use Whatsapp for fast and efficient correspondence, scheduling, and other details.

Q: What Math topics or concepts are you particularly skilled in teaching, and how do you keep up to date with changes in the curriculum?

I have most experience and skill teaching higher level math including Calculus, Vector Algebra, Trigonometry. However, my method is based on breaking complex ideas into simple intuitions. This is why working with curious kids also works wonders, whether they are in primary school or high school.

Q: How do you communicate with parents about their child's progress and any challenges they may be facing in learning Math?

Usually the child's progress is visible in the grades or the boosted confidence within a few sessions. Even so, if the parent wants to know more about the child's progress, we can have a short call on demand where I walk the parent(s) through the work we did.

Q: Do you provide any additional resources or materials to supplement your lessons, such as practice exercises or online tutorials?

I provide the student with the pdf's of every lesson or the papers that I write on for physical sessions. I try to do as much teaching on the spot as possible, to make sure the student understand the material, but I do refer them to short videos about particular topics sometimes. On demand, I provide homework sheets on particular topics.

Q: What is your approach to homework assignments, and how do you ensure students understand the concepts covered in class?

I provide homework is case the class work is not enough, or when I believe the students needs more practice with a topic. I do this based on my intuition of how well the student understands the topic.

Q: What steps do you take to ensure that your teaching approach is compatible with the student's learning style?

No 2 students are the same. Some need extra explanations, some can jump straight to solving exercises. I ask many questions along the way to make sure the student's reasoning makes sense and to identify where confusion arises. Either way, my focus is to help students think through the problem and develop understanding, not just robotically solve exercises.

Q: Do you have experience working with students with learning disabilities or special needs, and how do you adapt your teaching methods to accommodate their needs?

I have many students with ADHD and dyslexia. School is boring for them because their brain needs engagement and a reason for learning the things they are learning. I don't think neurodivergents have learning disabilities, I think they just need their teachers to do better.
