Questions for You

Q: What age range of students do you usually work with?

I work with students 16 years old and older.

Q: How do you approach lesson planning and preparation?

My approach are common to normal classroom set-ups, the difference here is it is done online. My preparations are always done 1 - 2 days after the student provided the topic/s they want to be tutored for.

Q: How do you measure progress and assess learning outcomes for your students?

Similar to Philippine Grading System for Grade 11 and 12 (I'll tell more at the start of tutoring). It also applies with college students too so that there will be no confusion for grading especially during online group class set-up.

Q: Do you provide regular homework and assignments, and how do you review and provide feedback on student work?

ON ASSIGNMENTS AND HOMEWORKS: Seldomly. There will be times that I'll be leaving homeworks but mostly I don't, it just depends on the topic. My approach as always is to finish everything inside the tutoring sessions so that the student/s can rest well after class. ON FEEDBACK TO STUDENT'S WORK: Feedback on tasks and examinations/drills or quizzes are given immediately after checking of the tasks/tests including their scores. This is just between the student and the tutor. For overall class progress, I provide feedback directly to student/s after 2 sessions. I can send them via email or just say it after class. I can also tell feedbacks to parents but there must be consent between the student/s and parents so that they are well aware.

Q: What technology or resources do you use to enhance your lessons, particularly for online sessions?

I use various methods of learning that can be found online like kahoot!, mentimeter, Google Jamboard etc. for recitation both in private one-on-one sessions and also for group classes. For lecture that includes the details of the lesson, I just use powerpoint/canva to make it simple and send the PDF after each session. I also add videos from youtube or other video sources for additional information.

Q: Do you provide any additional support outside of scheduled lesson times, such as answering questions via email or phone?

Yes. But there are some limitations to the time as I also cater other students' inquiries or having lessons with them: For email, Tuesday and Thursday only from 10:00am to 5:00pm only (Philippine Standard Time). I only allow Google Meet/Zoom Meet calls if answers for inquiry cannot be provided by just using email. Duration of the call may last for 30-40 minutes only.

Q: Do you have any specific strategies for motivating students who may be struggling or disengaged with the subject material?

I do time-outs during lessons, where students will rest from the lesson for a while and go back after a few minutes. I also allow food/drinks during class so that student/s can feel comfortable and less stressed. Some studies show that eating certain foods during lectures or before examination can boost their focus and motivation while doing those tasks. Just maintain cleanliness and respect while eating to not create any kind of disturbance.

Q: Do you have experience working with students with learning differences or special needs?

No, but I'll reconsider soon! I just need to look for trainings for teaching students learning differences or special needs.
