Making mind-maps is very helpful for writing essays or papers. I like to let my students make mind-maps and put all their initial thought on paper, just to get an good overview on what to use and what not to use. The use of colors for different topics is very helpful as well. When it comes to writing scientific essays and papers, it is very important to do prior research on for example Google Scholar. This is something I can help students with as well.
When it comes to grammar it is just a matter of lots of practice. Being able to speak fluent in English is a great first start for practicing grammar rules. This is why conversational skills are something I prioritize with me students. When a student is fluent in speaking English, grammar will be much easier. For spelling, I think phonics in English are very helpful. I can help my students to go over various phonics and help them get a good overview of all the different sounds in English. We will start spelling easier words, and as we go along move on to spelling harder and more complicated words.
Reading is something students can learn to enjoy by being exposed to lots of fun books and stories. For beginning students, I would read the stories to them in a fun and interactive way, to sparkle their interest in books. When it comes to students that can already read by themselves, I would encourage them to read to me, as well as read with them. Furthermore, I would do exercises on worksheets with them to work on their reading comprehension.
For literary analysis, I think it is very helpful to discuss the texts the students read. We can discuss our thoughts about what is written, and try to understand the meaning of the texts. The making of mind-maps is also very helpful. We can look at the structure of the text and break it down together. With critical thinking confidence is very important. We can work on how to form our own opinions and on how to put these opinions into words.
Pronunciation and enunciation are somethings that can be practiced. By breaking down words and looking at phonics, I can make it easier for students practice sounds first and then putting those sounds together to have better pronunciation of English words.
Public speaking and presentation skills are all about confidence and being able to interact will with the public. I will let students practice their presentations in front of me, and give them feedback. Having done lots of presentations and even some public speaking during my education, I know how scary presentations can be, and I know how to make them go well. I will share all my tips and advice with students, and practice a lot!
Working as a Native English teacher with kids between 3 to 6 years old, I became very good at explaining difficults topics in easy and simple terms. When it comes to the countless grammar rules in English, I will make sure to explain them as straightforward and clear as possible, without making it very complicated.
As someone who studied lots of languages, I know it can be hard to find motivation to keep studying when you are struggling. My approach is to be very patient with students, and give them all the time they need to improve.
When it comes to specific schools, I make sure to research the specific curriculum and course requirements.
If students are preparing for English exams and assignments I make sure to look at the requirements the teachers gave them. Based on those requirements I will help the student prepare.
There are many different kind of learners, like visual learners, auditory learners, kinesthetic learners, etc. I make sure to observe what type of learner a student is, and will cater towards that specifically. This way the tutoring sessions can stay fun.
I can help students practice for their English exams, and during this practice I will make sure to help the students with test-taking strategies.
I am willing to provide additional practice problems and resources for independent study.
I will look into providing assistence with English language certification exams.
I can provide guidance on choosing appropriate reading materials for improving English language skills. I will asses the students reading abilities, and help find appropriate reading materials.
Writing professional emails and conducting meetings in English is something I can help students with by practicing and setting up guidelines.
Literary devices are very important when it comes to writing good texts in English. I will go over different kinds of literary devices, and look at examples with students, before letting them try to apply them by themselves.
Personally I think writing is very fun, and I hope to make my students enthusiastic for writing too, by encouraging them to practice a lot.
