After studying with Maria for more than two years, my son Jean has shown remarkable improvement in both his mathematical abilities and his confidence in class. Maria consistently kept me informed about his progress, which I truly appreciated as a parent. Jean always looked forward to the lessons and never felt anxious about them. It was clear that he genuinely liked Maria, and her supportive teaching approach played a key role in his learning. Overall, I would wholeheartedly recommend Maria as an excellent maths teacher.
I have a wide range of teaching materials compiled over the years, but I adjust every lesson to the individual needs of every student. I actively encourage students to share with me their class materials, so I can adjust the type of exercises and language I use to teach to what the students see in class. I conduct my lessons on Zoom where I share my iPad screen with the student, as we write and solve exercises together. This interactive method allows me to use graphing software to help visualize the topics and make the teaching more engaging. After every lesson, the student receives the PDF notes from our class.
I have over 6 years of teaching Maths online to students from international schools, mostly from the Hague. Many of my students have graduated and are pursuing university degrees at various top universities in the Netherlands. I communicate with the students through WhatsApp to plan lessons and send class material. Also, I work closely with the parents to ensure they are informed about the teaching progress. To me, the parents' perspective is a very important one - they can see if the child's grades are improving, what works, and what could be adjusted. If requested, I also send updates after every class, outlining what we covered in class and how the student was performing.
I particularly enjoy teaching calculus and functions - those were also my personal favorites back in school:)
Communication with parents is very important to me. I only see their child for a few hours a week, maximum - they are the ones who see what goes on beyond our teaching hours. For this reason, parental feedback on how the child is progressing, whether they are satisfied with the lessons, are enthusiastic, and if their grades are improving etc. Depending on the parents' preference, I provide summaries of every class about the content covered and performance.
Depending on the students' requests, their motivation, and whether exams are approaching, I provide tailored homework exercises to practice aspects that need polishing and perfect the skills that are already excellent.
To ensure the student truly understands the concepts covered, my approach is simple - explain as many times as needed and with as many examples as possible. To me, patience is key to teaching, and it is very important that my students feel they can ask any question they want, however many times they want.
I actively encourage students to share their class materials, so I can adjust the type of exercises and language I use to teach to what the students see in class.
When it comes to special needs, the most important aspect is to observe - especially at first. Observe what works and what does not work, be patient, and consult with the parents about the child's behaviors and needs.
