I graduated with an MEng Honours degree in Materials Science from the University of Oxford. With a strong academic record, I am well-grounded in the key elements of applied Chemistry, Physics, and Maths, and understand the tools and techniques required to succeed in examinations and applications up to this level, including 11+ and 13+ common entrance exams. I have experience tutoring international school students in science and mathematics based on the UK Curriculum in Hong Kong. Before that, I supported Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) activities in a school environment as part of The Flying Start Challenge, a competition for students in Year 7 to Year 9. In this role, I taught the fundamentals of flight and assisted groups with their project work. I have experience teaching in front of large classes, as well as providing support to smaller groups. Additionally, I have taught English as a foreign language to adults, wherein I prepared lesson materials, marked homework, and reviewed answers in class. The challenge in this role was preparing materials that catered to the different levels of English within the class. I derive great satisfaction from motivating students and sharing my passion and knowledge in subjects that I am passionate about. I aim to fill in the gaps in students' knowledge by assessing their strengths and learning style, tailoring my teaching approach to their specific needs. I strongly believe that developing important soft skills at a young age through extracurricular activities is especially significant when transitioning from a learning environment to the world of employment. I can bring this pastoral side to the tutoring role through my own experiences both inside and outside the education system. Read less

An approach I find to be most helpful to students especially when outside of a school environment is based on question-prompting to get students to critically think, ask questions, and gain knowledge from their observations. Using different methods and media to repeat a question relating to key concepts also helps the student memorise these. Read less
