I was a top student in mathematics at my college. I find mathematics to be an interesting subject because, in my opinion, once you understand the concepts, it becomes like a piece of cake. I am currently looking for a job here in Thailand and I have past experience with teaching, so this is not something new to me. I will initially request marked assessments (quizzes, tests, exams, or homework failing all else) to assess your answering style, identify problem areas, and then find material to reinforce the required learning.
