Afterwards, I worked full-time at Oxford as a Lecturer and organized admissions for Modern Languages for 6 years. I find that the best approach in tutoring is always to adapt to the student's own situation. That's the point of one-to-one tutoring. Otherwise, another format is best. Some students thrive in an Oxford-style, fast-paced tutorial with lots of difficult questions. Others require lots of encouragement and explanation, starting from basic principles.
