I have been passionate about english since high school, so I have chosen to pursue a career in English education ever since. I currently work for the University of South Africa, offering online tuition and detailed feedback on 1st and 2nd-year assignments, and I have done so for the past 7 years. As an amateur author and part-time editor of manuscripts and theses, I specialise in grammar, vocabulary and creative writing and I pride myself in trying to instill foundational critical-thinking skills in my students, in the belief that critical thinking and analysis are basic life skills that are becoming ever more important in this age of online media consumption, "fake" news and targeted advertising. I am a PhD candidate in humanities at York University, and have taught English, social sciences, academic writing, public speaking, and drama for over twenty years to hundreds of students between the ages of 15-65. I can help with all aspects of academic research and writing, as well as presentation and public speaking skills. While working as a Writing Instructor for two years at York`s Writing Centre, I assisted individual students with interpreting assignments, organizing research notes, getting started at writing, proper documentation styles, and editing their own work. I also taught several group workshops and lectured to large undergraduate classrooms on the fundamentals and processes of academic essay writing, and avoiding plagiarism. Under my tutelage, students have gone from earning D grades to earning A grades in humanities subjects. After years of marking papers as a Course Director and as a Teaching Assistant, I know exactly what professors are looking for when evaluating papers and exams. I am also a DJ, musician, and entrepreneur. I am located in West Toronto, but willing to travel to libraries or universities along the TTC line.

My name is Tamara Gibson. I am a Certified Educator with a Specialized Honours in Sociology and a minor in History, as well as a writer and an artist. I am also a homeschooling mother of two boys and a private tutor for over 10 years, specializing in students with learning differences. I'm well-qualified with a BA majoring in English, a post-graduate qualification in applied lingusitics and a doctorate in story. I studied TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages ) and obtained my certificate from the Canadian Institute of English.
