I moved to Hong Kong from Ireland ten years ago with my wife (who is a foreigner). I am fluent in English (near-native—IELTS: 8.5/9; Reading: 9, Speaking: 8.5, Writing & Listening: 8.5), Cantonese, Mandarin, and Spanish.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Melbourne, where I took many mathematics-related subjects such as computation, game theory, and data analysis. I also earned a Master's degree in Computer Science from Victoria University of Technology in Australia, with my dissertation focused on game theory—this is my highest qualification. I have been tutoring English, mathematics, and coding since my return in 2019.
In mathematics tutoring, I achieved an A in General Mathematics and a B in both Physics and Chemistry at HKCEE, as well as a B in Physics at HKAL. I teach science, general science, and physics from Primary 4 to Secondary 6 for DSE, Year 4 to Year 11 for IGCSE, and Year 4 to Year 11 for the IB Diploma. I am most familiar with IGCSE and IB Diploma, as my son also studied GCSE in Northern Ireland, and my wife is an English teacher as well.
Thanks to such a strong and resourceful support system, I am able to provide students with textbooks, notes, and exercises. Some of my accomplishments include:
1. Assisting a P6 (Band 3) student in gaining admission to Malvern College (an international school accepting around 15 students each year from 12,000 applicants).
2. Helping an F1 student progress from F1 to F2 at Diocesan Boys' School (100 out of 10,000 applicants).
3. Supporting an F6 student—who was initially expected to score a 2 in DSE English and was not strong in English—to ultimately achieve a score of 3.
Currently, my students come from both international and local schools such as Malvern College, Choi Kai Yau School, Yew Chung International School, Po Chui College, and St. Francis Primary School. I design tailor-made courses for every student and have recently completed a diploma in Introduction to Teaching English as a Second Language from Alison Corporation. Read less

My approach will depend on the student's needs and learning style. However, my teaching is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real-world examples whenever possible. I usually focus on exam-style or past paper questions to check, practice, and perfect the student's understanding and technique. Read less
