It is important that a goal or question is first established and that the student finds the solution, rather than me teaching a method to get an answer. I think curiosity and problem-solving is first priority, then refinement of skills to do so. This insures confidence and flexibility when using these skills in the future.
I have only taught in person, but have attended many tutoring sessions online for myself. I am willing to accommodate with zoom, teams, etc.
I really love teaching basic calculus principles, but have also experience with abstract algebra and trigonometry.
I am willing to send a brief overview of how each lesson went to the parent. However, I think a conversation every few lessons is best to monitor progress and keep the parent up to date.
Practice assignments and videos can be assigned- having different people and different ways of explaining concepts help to ensure understanding.
Assignments work best when related to outside environments of the students everyday life. It is also wise to consider manageability of amounts.
I believe each student is going to have their own way that works best for them, and it is my responsibility to experiment with different approaches that will work. I love making lessons more engaging though physical activities and demonstrations, movement, art, etc. depending on the topic.
I do have experience with special needs kids, and I am willing to discuss what approaches will best work for the child.
